Got A Light?
The New York Underground Film Festival called it a day this year with their 15th and final showing. The NYUFF was one of the more progressive venues for independent filmmakers to showcase their talents and stylings, but unfortunately as of now, that portal has closed indefinitely. There is a light at the end of the tunnel, however. It seems that the organizers behind the NYUFF refuse to go quietly into the mini-DV darkness. In an excerpt from their official website informs followers of a new entity that will be unraveled soon enough...
...Migrating Forms signals a passing of the torch from NYUFF to the future, and it also addresses the present condition of film and video arts-filmmakers are exploring new technologies while re-inventing and re-contextualizing traditional practices. The name Migrating Forms comes from a title of a film by a filmmaker who has gained much attention from his 8-year participation in the NYUFF, James Fotopoulos, and we think this is a nice, if oblique, way to remain connected to our past. A full press release with more information on the new organization will be available soon.
A new festival perhaps? A production company? A fancy new brill cream? Whatever the incarnation, I will be keeping tabs on future Migrating Forms developments so when I know something, you'll know something.
Check out the NYUFF's website for a wrapup of the films and details on the swan song of the fest.
