Up On The Roof

If you're anything like me, you're constantly wondering what can be added to the movie-going experience these days. Have you been sitting in a theater and thought to yourself, "this could really use some improvement. I wish I could be watching a film on a rooftop somewhere...and some band should playing along with the shows...and give me a beer, too." Well, you're in luck my celluloid-loving lushes.
Rooftop films is one of the better times you can have at any film festival during the summer. They host their annual Summer Series events throughout Brooklyn and Manhattan where tons of great films are shown on the, you guessed it, rooftops of said boroughs. You can watch some great independent flicks, get fresh air, and experience the city from above all of the smelly subway vents and empty 40 oz. bottles. They show a wide variety of films too; they can range from shorts to feature lengths and documentaries. Also, there's live music that accompanies the movies, so not only do you get to watch indie features and shorts, but you can treat your ears to some rooftop delights as well.
It is truly a great time and a beautiful way to showcase daring and creative films (and music, too). I went last year and between the actual show and the after party they throw, err, afterwards, you should not miss out on this year's edition.
Their website insists that even though the major deadline for submissions has passed, you can still get your movie into the fest this summer if you email them now. Like, right now. For the rest of you who aren't looking to submit, there's tons of info about the festivities on their site so do yourself a favor and check this one out.
Did I mention there are beers and after-parties?
