Jazzing Up A Sunday Near You
On April 6 the Two Boots Pioneer Theater is featuring First Sundays, a collection of comedy shorts that the Chicago City Limits improv group presents on the first sunday of every month. The showcase was founded by a particuarly revered comedy collective that has been "thrilling audiences for over twenty-two years with its unique style of improvisational comedy (from their website)."
First Sundays is truly an attention-starved audience dweller's dream. Each showing they select random audience members to act in a film that will be seen at the next month's edition of the selections. Tired of buying markers to write "Put me in your movie!" on chopped, cardboard signs? Then First Sundays could be your break! Another factor to consider when deciding what to do on Sundays instead of mentally psyching yourself up for another dreadful week at work is attending the after-party 'City Limits throws after every version of First Sundays. You can mingle with the filmmakers and organizers of the generous troupe and get some insider experience on how to go about getting your film seen and heard. Although you might want to wait until your eight beer to start asking them those questions.
Not to mention that films themselves are pretty enticing on their own. Among this month's inclusions are Too Many Clams, Ballots Over Broadway, Turkey Shoot, and Monkey Pancakes. The shorts are of high quality each time, and it's always a great experience. Past evidence that this particular bash is worth your wallet paper is the short Kicked In The Nuts (by Michael and Patrick Henry), which is every bit as glorious and life-changing as it sounds.
Check out their website to see some of the films being shown now, as well as past examples, and the folks involved in putting the shindig together.
