Lights, Camera, Action Jackson

Not only will this site be dedicated to the people that make up the performing arts' independent scene of New York City, but I will try to focus on the equipment that makes it all possible as much as I can as well. Starting...now.

Videomaker Magazine is having a series of summits and instructional retreats for aspiring filmmakers who prefer the ease of digital over the tear of film strips. These successful summits, workshops, and all-around tutorial seminars make for great visiting in the city of your choice. Well, almost. The series starts in California in April, but it doesn't reach our borders until October when they crash Newark, NJ. But, anyone interested in reserving their spot for any of Videomaker's stellar schooling needs to act now. Registering for any event has opened and room runs out mighty fast. Check out Videomaker's event page for details on how to best plan your attack.

The various fields touched upon include producing, editing, lighting, and audio. All feature hands-on experience and promise that you'll leave their nest as fresh and firm as a Georgia peach. They also feature discounts on equipment like cameras and mics (this might just be a promo tool for subscibers to the rag, but I would imagine there's great deals going on for anyone who shows up and pays for their time). So how about putting your talent to good use instead of editing that clip of the dramatic chipmunk for the thousandth time on iMovie (I know, I know...he's just so darned cute). Learn from some kind of professionals and film the next great cinematic masterpiece. Or Porky's 4. Either way, we'll all appreciate the effort.

Have a good, lazy-eyed weekend my silly geese!
