My Coney Island Baby

Posted on March 07, 2008

Film Festivals are a dime a dozen these days, and New York is no exception. I just caught a gentle ocean breeze through an email that the Coney Island Film Festival is calling for 2008 entries. Now, the festival doesn't take place until September (the 26th through the 28th actually), but the regular deadline for submissions is April 25th. The entry fee is $25. So get cracking if you want your film to be surrounded by the smells of seagulls and slightly rotting wood. And I mean that in the most pleasant of ways. Since this is an early notice, more details should be flooding in soon so keep it here for further developments on this superb festival.

Coney Island is a great place for a festival and every year the CIFF has always made for a good time. They have a good mixture of classic and newer independent films, including exclusive Coney Island productions. I went last year and I'm not sure if the salt water that was mixed with my Corona helped, but it was one of the better times I've ever had at a festival.

There's also the New York Underground and Brooklyn Underground film festivals right around the corner in April (tentatively scheduled for now), but I will be posting about those with more details hopefully next week.

And now, it's weekend time. To the observatory!
